The shortest way to pin a sticky note to any window (website, doc, folder, program, etc.) is to press Ctrl+Shift+W from within the sticky note. The note will stick immediately to the active window.

Just imagine if you could have the right information at the right time automatically, without any effort from your side. With Notezilla, you can attach sticky notes to a particular document, web page, folder, program, etc., so that they will pop up automatically whenever you are working on them.

Video Transcription:

To stick a note to a website (the same steps apply when sticking notes to documents, folders, programs, or any other window).

Open a website.
Choose ‘New Note’ by clicking on the Notezilla icon in the taskbar and write your note.
Click on the top-left button (Note Menu button) of the sticky note and choose ‘Stick To Window’ from the note menu list. A dialog box appears with the list of all the programs running on your system.
Choose the website where you want to stick the note to.
The ‘Hide note otherwise’ option will hide the note automatically if you are not on that particular website.
Now press OK.

The sticky notes are always shown based on the title of the website. However, if you opt to stick a note on all the pages of the particular website, use an asterisk(*) along with the title.

Locking a sticky note with a password in Windows using Notezilla

Often, users would like to lock sticky notes so that the content is not visible or edited by others. The note has to be encrypted so that it cannot be read from the database too. Notezilla allows to lock a sticky note as well as encrypt it.

Watch this short video for more clarity:

To lock a sticky note, Right-click on the note’s title bar or toolbar and select ‘Lock’ from the Note Menu.
Type the master password to lock the sticky note and press OK. However, if you are locking notes for the first time, then you will be requested to create a new master password. The sticky note will be locked and rolled up so that the contents are not visible to anyone else.
To unlock a locked sticky note, click on the lock icon placed on the right-top corner of the note. A new dialog box will appear wherein you have to type the master password to unlock the note. Unlock it if you wish to edit the note or remove the lock permanently.
Make sure you always remember the master password. Once you forget the master password, you will never be able to unlock the notes.

Automatically launch a program at specified time in Windows

Today I want to highlight a feature of Notezilla (Windows sticky notes app) that many users may not be using it, or may not be aware of it.

What is Notezilla?

When setting a reminder alarm on a sticky note in Notezilla, you can actually configure the reminder to run a particular program, launch a website or open a document automatically. You can also repeat it at a specified interval.

This feature can be handy if you regularly run a particular program (backup weekly, etc.), check some data on a website, etc. You can automate this by telling Notezilla to run that program/website/document at a specific time.

Moving sticky notes from old computer to a new computer on Windows

Here is the summary:

Go to the old PC (desktop / laptop). Find out where Notezilla stores its data. You can find this from Notezilla’s Preferences (Advanced tab). To access Notezilla’s Preferences, right-click on the Notezilla icon, and choose Preferences from the menu.
Typically, Notezilla stores data under:
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Conceptworld\Notezilla\
Windows Vista/7/8: C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Conceptworld\Notezilla\
Open the above mentioned data folder in Windows Explorer.
Inside the data folder, you will find either Notes8.db or Notes.db file. Sometimes you would see Notes8 or Notes if you have configured your system to hide file extensions.
Exit Notezilla.
Copy Notes8.db or Notes.db file to a pen drive, external drive or to a network location easily accessible from your new PC.
Download and install Notezilla on your new computer from our website.
Run Notezilla on your new PC and find out where exactly the data is stored (Follow step 1 on new computer)
Open the data folder in Windows Explorer.
Exit Notezilla.
Delete Notes8.db or Notes.db file from the data folder (assuming that you haven’t created any important notes after installing Notezilla on the new computer).
Copy Notes8.db or Notes.db file (that we copied from the old computer) from the pen drive, external drive or network location to the data folder opened on the new computer.
Run Notezilla. You will find all your sticky notes from your old computer on your new PC :).

Always show Notezilla icon in notification area (system tray) in Windows

After you run the sticky notes app – Notezilla, you will find that it creates an icon inside the notification area. Windows, by default hides this icon inside an expandable panel. If you click on the small triangle in the notification area (also called system tray), you will see the Notezilla icon. See picture below:

Since the only way to access Notezilla features is through this icon (except for the hotkeys), it would be more convenient to tell Windows always to show this icon so that you don’t have to use the expandable panel each time.

Here is how you would do this.

Step 1: Click on Customize link shown in the expandable panel (see picture above).

Once you choose ‘Customize,’ you will see the below window allowing you to configure how each tray icon should behave. Click on the below picture to see the full view.

Step 2: Find Notezilla in the list, select ‘Show icon and notifications’ option for Notezilla & press OK.

You will now notice that the Notezilla icon always shows up in the notification area.

Making this small change will ease your access to Notezilla’s features.
