Is there any way to delete a line item in the Recent x window without deleting the item?

Yes, it is definitely possible. You can hide a line item in RecentX without deleting the item. Just select an item and press Delete key for more options. Alternatively, you can select an item and then right-click and choose Remove to get more options.
