Assigning Tags to Files & Folders

To assign one or more tags to a file or a folder in Windows, following are the ways.

Assign tags using the right click menu

Select one or more files or folders in Filezo, right click and choose Tags from the menu to assign new tags, or edit an existing tags list.

Drag a tag and drop it over a file or a folder

Drag an existing tag from the Tags pane and drop it over a file or a folder to assign.

Assign tags directly from Windows File Explorer

Select one or more files or folders in Windows File Explorer, right click and select Tags files/folders from the menu to assign tags.

Tags are retained

Tags work seamlessly on NTFS file system. You can rename, copy or move the tagged files/folders without losing the tags.

Tags on other file systems are saved under a hidden subfolder called .filezo. When you copy or move any annotated files/folders, ensure that you also copy/move the corresponding hidden .filezo folder.

Once you make the changes to the files/folders, wait for Filezo to index them to see your tags again.

Filezo runs on Windows 11 and Windows 10.
